International Women's Day, the 8 March, is a time to celebrate the climb of women's rights during the years.
This day is a global celebration looking at the achievements of women. It originated from the work of the suffragettes winning women the right to vote, and the first event of this national holiday ran in 1911. Women have fought for their economic, political and social rights and till this day have been successful.
All the celebrities are rejoicing on twitter such as Kylie and Dannii Minogue, Davina McCall and even Channel 4 presenter Rick Edwards, saying: "kill two birds with one stone today - make a pancake for a woman".
Locally in the Canterbury area, the free event which is a show called 'Hurried steps', is being shown on the 14 March at the Gulbenkian Theatre, University of Kent. The show relates to International women's day as it highlights violence against women. For more information check out the website: http://www.internationalwomensday.com
